Villa Park High School Basketball Takes First at
Southern Regional Championships

Orange, CA – April 14, 2017 – Orange Unified is proud to announce that Villa Park High School’s Spartans claimed the CIF Southern California Regional Division II championship during a mid-March game against Colony High School in Ontario.

The win qualified Villa Park’s varsity basketball team to compete in the CIF State Championships, where they ultimately lost to Northern California Regional Champion Mission of San Francisco in overtime.

Led to victory by 20-year Head Coach Kevin Reynolds and assisted by Brian Wood, Agee Ward, and Student Assistant Evan Battey, the Spartans had an overall season record of 26-7.

Other accomplishments made by the team this season include winning first place in the North Hills League; being named top ten in Orange County; competing in the Villa Park basketball program’s 6th CIF final at the Honda Center; and beating four separate Sectional Champions in the CIF State Tournament, including Colony High School, on their way to earning the District’s first ever Southern Regional Championship.

Team members included seniors Daelyn Bams, Myles Franklin (League MVP), Brawnze Moore, and Imran Takhar; juniors Matthew Houlihan and Matthew Lanzone; sophomores Caleb Banuelos (1st Team All-League), Gabriel Barrios, Julien       Franklin (1st Team All-League) , Paul         Piferi, Jason Reed, Tane Sedgewick, and Isaiah Williams; along with freshmen Kumasi Jabulani and Riley Schroeder.

The only other District team to qualify for the State Regional Final was the 2006 Villa Park Boys Basketball Team.
