Misty Campos Recognized as GLAD Trainer of the Year

Orange, CA - October 26, 2016 - Orange Unified School District is proud to announce that English Learner Instructional Specialist Misty Campos  has been honored with “Trainer of the Year” award by Orange County Department of Education Project GLAD® National Training Center at a ceremony held recently.

The OCDE Project GLAD® (Guided Language Acquisition Design) National Training Center has been committed to all students' success and progress in academics, linguistic proficiency, social emotional growth and the whole child for over 36 years. They are particularly committed to amplifying the experiences for our Language Learners by utilizing the cornerstone of culture and excellence. OCDE Project GLAD ® National Training Center Manager Nicole Chavez stated, “We believe that all students are jewels, and have many gifts and assets to share.  This is the belief we too hold for our educators, instructional leaders and trainers that bridge relevancy, excitement, and opportunity to their students each day in the classroom.  Misty Campos models these beliefs uninhibitedly.”

“Misty Campos exemplifies the philosophies, the mindset, the expertise, and passion one needs to support the levels of implementation that are occurring in Orange.  She exudes excellence in each endeavor and project she takes on, and is not settled until others walk away with a thought deepened, a question unearthed, something new created and dendrites connected.  She is spectacularly dynamic.  Over the last 15 years, she has mentored dozens of Tier I newly implementing teachers, Tier II Trainers in-Training and supported Tier III Trainers and Tier IV Consultant colleagues in deepening their practice.  She is never short of lending and extending a hand in support of greater depth of implementation of the model.”

For these reasons, and so many others, Misty has been identified as the sole recipient of the “2016 Trainer of the Year” Award.  There are a total of 539 Active trainers across the nation and Misty has exemplified excellence, enthusiasm and innovation beyond the call of duty.

Administrative Director of Accountability and Special Programs Elena Rodriguez said: “For the past 17 years Misty has had an indelible impact on literally hundreds of teachers and their students in the Orange Unified School District in her role as one of our four highly skilled District instructional specialists for English Learners in our department.  Her expertise in guiding teachers to refine their teaching practices to benefit our language learners has made her an integral member of our Orange Unified School District instructional team.  Further exemplifying why Orange Unified is a District of Excellence.”
