“We’ve Got Your Back” Benefits Underprivileged Students

Orange, CA – September 7, 2016 – Orange Unified will be able to supply District homeless, at-risk and foster youth with backpacks full of school supplies thanks to the generosity of the Orange real estate community.

Seven Gables Realty of Orange held a “We’ve Got Your Back!” build-a-backpack and adopt-a-backpack fundraiser over the summer and put together 175 popular brands of backpacks stuffed with school supplies for District students.

Kindergarten and elementary backpacks featured popular cartoon and movie characters, along with more subdued flowered and solid colored backpacks. Secondary school student bags included trendy brands packed full of supplies, including scientific calculators, for the secondary school students.

“We were overwhelmed by the generous donation that Seven Gables organized for the benefit of our most disadvantaged students,” said Kristine Nelson, coordinator for McKinney-Vento, foster and at-risk youth. “The positive impact the backpacks have on these kids is just incredible.”

Qualifying students received backpacks to start the year and additional backpacks will be distributed on an as-needed basis to District homeless, at-risk and foster youth through the Office of Student and Community Services.
