OUSD Staff Presents at 70th Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) Annual Conference & Exhibit Show

Orange, CA – April 2, 2015 - Principal Jennifer Bourgeois, Ph.D. and Instructional Specialist Kathy Lloyd received a standing ovation following their presentation at the 70th ASCD Annual Conference in Houston, Texas last month. Their session, Creating a Culture of Inquiry: Our Story, was an interactive journey sharing the leadership methods they used to successfully transform West Orange Elementary School’s learning environment into a culture of inquiry.

"As we transition our schools to provide a 21st century learning environment for our students, it is important to collaborate, communicate and learn from our colleagues.  It was a wonderful experience to share the work we have been doing at our site with people from around the world during the ASCD conference," said Dr. Bourgeois. “I look forward to fostering the connections we made to support our continued learning and growing.”
Creating a Culture of Inquiry inspired and motivated participants to foster an atmosphere where teachers work collaboratively to transform teaching and learning for the 21st century scholar. Topics included the use of enduring understandings, essential questions, shifts in the English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum and Math Common Core standards, educational technology, and a shared-responsibility for the Response to Intervention (RTI) process.

ASCD is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering educators to help every student succeed. The organization is comprised of 125,000 members from more than 138 countries across the globe.
