Harnessing Energy
for Environmental, Economic, and Educational Impact
Over the last decade, OUSD has leveraged energy improvements to modernize infrastructure
and enhance existing educational environments. As a result, OUSD has reduced energy
consumption by 6 million KWH annually and is on target to generate more than $16 million
in savings. In 2016 the Facilities and Planning Department embarked upon an $8.65 million
Clean Energy Jobs Act Program that will improve the educational environment and save the
District money for years to come. The program consists of new energy efficient Lighting,
Air Conditioners, Energy Management Systems, and Pool Pumps. The Clean Energy Jobs
Act is funded by a corporate income tax and has no fiscal impact on the general fund. The
program is in full swing and will be completed in the spring of 2017.
New in 2016
Facilities and Planning built a new Central
Kitchen within its warehouse in 2016. The
new state-of-the-art equipment and central
location has allowed Nutrition Services to
better serve students wholesome meals.
The Facilities and Planning Department is
currently working on a new Data Center
that will allow for 10x faster internet in the
classroom. It will also provide technology
staff a more dependable and serviceable Modernization
system.
