Crescent Elementary’s Robotics Teams Score at VEX World Finals in Kentucky

Orange, CA – May 5, 2017 – Orange Unified is proud to announce that Crescent’s two robotics teams, 15A Scoring Machine and 15B Crescent Crossovers, were ranked as top tier schools at the recent VEX Robotics World Championships in Kentucky. Team 15A finished third of 68 teams in the Technology Division and Team 15B finished third of 68 teams in the Engineering Division and placed thirteenth in the Skills and Programming competition.

Team 15A Scoring Machine members include Andrew Nguyen, Elizabeth Teng, Rishi Patel, Ben Andrews, Devin Williams, Madison Kelly, Sasha Kim, Kiera Low and Sree Vadlamudi.   Team 15B’s Crescent Crossovers include Tanuj Basu, Joshua Teng, Ishan Trivedi, Duke Mullen, Kayal Shorey, Rohaan Trivedi, Tanish Basu, Jibril Dadabhoy, Sophia Gerges and Niyati Godha.

Crescent’s robotics program is open to all students in grades three through six and eligibility to compete is based on an application process and a commitment to work and practice with the teams after school and on weekends.   The student teams work collaboratively by problem solving, critical thinking, designing the STEM project and building of robots to compete.

“We wish to thank Staff Advisor Mrs. Bond, Mrs. Carias and our loyal parent volunteers,” stated Principal Shelé Tamaki. “Congratulations to both teams for a successful year!”

Sponsored by the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation, VEX IQ competitions utilize Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education, as well as social skills, to increase and enrich learning.

There were 272 teams representing 16 countries competing in the Elementary School VEX Competition.
